Le Vieux biclou is a ‘participatory and solidarity workshop for bike self-repair’ in Montpellier, France.
We are an NGO (non-governmental organization), which means we are non-profit, but you need to pay a membership fee to use our services. The membership cost is €20/€25 per year or €15 for six months. No supporting documents are required for the registration. Once you’re a member, you have access to the workshop and the different activities offered by the organization, including:
- Self-repair workshops: all the necessary tools are at your disposal, as well as new or used parts (prices available on-site). The idea: maintain and repair your bike yourself, while benefiting from the advice of other members present on-site.
- Beaux-Arts workshop, 5 rue de la Poésie:
- Wednesday, Friday & Saturday from 2PM to 5PM
- Tuesday & Thursday from 5:30PM to 8PM
- Campus workshop, Univ. Montpellier II – Building 1, central corridor:
- Monday & Thursday from 5PM to 7PM
- Tuesday & Wednesday from 12 noon to 2PM
- Beaux-Arts workshop, 5 rue de la Poésie:
- Used and restored bikes or bikes ‘as seen’ for sale.
- Introductory course in mechanics (SIM): a three-hour introduction, on your own bike, under the guidance of our professional mechanic for €30 (or €25 during the registration). Three times per month on the first Saturday, then the second and fourth Wednesday, from 9:30AM to 12:30.
- Bike-school: learn (or re-learn) how to ride a bicycle or acquire the specific skills needed to ride a bike in the city. €20 for a two-hour session, by appointment.
- ‘Bicycode’ anti-theft engraving: a registration number engraved on the frame of your bike (and a corresponding ‘passport’) to prevent theft and aid the return of your bike should it be lost or stolen. On dedicated days, €5 for members.
Please see more information on this website.
The workshop is open for all members thanks to our volunteer members. There’s no need to be an expert to volunteer: committing to holding a session from time to time allows us all to enjoy the workshop. We would, of course, offer you support if you take on this role.
Thank you for your interest in our organization.
